A defined scope from design to handover

Feasibility and system design

Review bills and interval demand, shading, roof drawings, access, inverter locations and electrical capacity. Compare self-consumption, export-limited and storage-ready options against the actual operating pattern.

Procurement and construction

Agree module and inverter specifications, mounting design, cable schedules, protective devices, monitoring and installation methods. Coordinate structural and fire-safety work with the responsible specialists.

Grid and factory integration

Define the point of common coupling, metering, export control, transformer loading, protection interfaces and shutdown windows. Coordinate connection submissions where included in the contract.

Commissioning and handover

Inspect and test the installed system, demonstrate monitoring and alarms, document the as-built arrangement and train the operating team. Record outstanding items before acceptance.

Engineering decisions that shape your project

Capacity: separate kWp DC from kW AC

PV capacity in kWp is the sum of module nameplate ratings under standard test conditions. Inverter kW AC is the conversion capacity. Their ratio affects clipping and inverter utilization; it is not a fixed rule for every roof. Usable area must exclude access corridors, roof edges, skylights, equipment and shaded zones.

Energy and savings: use a transparent model

Annual energy can be screened as E = P_DC × Y_specific. In an illustrative case, 500 kWp × 1,400 kWh/kWp/year = 700,000 kWh/year. At an assumed 85% self-consumption ratio, 595,000 kWh/year offsets purchased electricity. These are assumptions, not a site yield forecast. Use a location-specific model and interval demand before an investment decision.

Returns: distinguish avoided purchases from export revenue

Calculate avoided electricity cost using the applicable time-of-use periods and the energy actually consumed on site. Deduct maintenance, replacement provisions and other operating costs. Evaluate export revenue only where the project has a confirmed legal and commercial route. Simple payback is capital cost divided by annual net savings; it does not replace a discounted cash-flow analysis.

Roof, protection and operational interfaces

Check remaining roof life, structural loads, wind uplift, corrosion, safe access and waterproofing before fixing the array. Electrical design checks include temperature-corrected string voltage, inverter operating limits, cable ampacity and voltage drop, isolation, bonding, surge protection and anti-islanding. Ordinary grid-connected PV does not provide outage backup without the required storage, controls and electrical separation.

What belongs in the bill of quantities

Typical BOQ structure — final quantities follow the agreed design. Swipe horizontally on a narrow screen.
Work or material group Measurement basis What the offer should define
PV modules Module / kWp DC Selected rating, quantity, layout and product warranty
Inverters and AC connection Unit / set AC rating, operating limits, protection and monitoring
Mounting and roof interfaces Set / m² / structural quantities Approved roof-specific design; strengthening separated
DC and AC cabling m / termination / circuit Measured routes, installation method, supports and losses
Protection, earthing and monitoring Set / point Isolation, SPDs, metering, export control and communications
Installation and commissioning Work package Access equipment, tests, handover and agreed shutdowns
Price depends on access, roof condition, mounting loads, equipment specification, cable lengths, distribution upgrades and connection scope. Roof strengthening, major civil work, fire-safety modifications, export arrangements, taxes and battery storage must be individually identified. A price per kWp without these boundaries is not a complete EPC comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Can I obtain an initial estimate before a site survey?

Yes. Roof drawings, location, bills, connection information and an equipment brief can support a budget estimate. Structural suitability, actual routes and connection conditions remain subject to verification before a firm construction offer.

Does the solar calculator issue a final construction quotation?

No. It is a planning aid. Its capacity, energy, cost and schedule outputs depend on entered assumptions and available price data. The final offer follows engineering review and an agreed BOQ.

Can a battery be added later?

Potentially. Check inverter compatibility, AC/DC coupling, space, protection, communications and the operating objective at the initial design stage. Storage readiness does not mean every inverter can accept any battery.

What warranty applies?

Installation works can be quoted with a 12-month defects warranty from contractual acceptance. Module, inverter and battery manufacturer warranties are separate; their exclusions, labour coverage and claim process must be stated in the offer.

Technical reference framework

Relevant engineering references are selected for the contracted equipment and installation. Applicable Vietnamese requirements, local network conditions, manufacturer instructions and the agreed design basis determine project compliance; listing a standard is not a certification claim.

    Quotation scope

Applies to one EVN-supplied substation with oil-immersed transformers at 22/0.4 kV (single-phase: 12.7/0.23 kV), with MV metering VTs/CTs supplied by EVN. The estimate includes the selected equipment, installation, earthing, transformer-to-main-breaker connections, design and connection documentation, and coordination of testing and utility acceptance.

Kiosk, integrated steel-pole and indoor substations include MV switchgear and the entered underground cable route. Other outdoor arrangements use the relevant protection configuration. The final diagram must meet the project connection requirements.

Excludes VAT, cables from the substation switchboard to the MSB/loads, live-line work, harmonic reactors, weak-ground treatment or special piling, land and special fire-protection provisions. Underground routes assume normal construction conditions and exclude road drilling and special reinstatement.

Prices are indicative investment budgets. A formal quotation follows site assessment and agreement on the configuration. Electrical selections are preliminary and require design verification before installation.

    Capacity range and application conditions

The catalogue defines the enquiry range of this tool, not universal TCVN capacity limits. Single pole-mounted transformers: 15–100 kVA; three-unit banks: 3×15–3×100 kVA. Platform substations: 100–630 kVA. Steel-pole substations: 100–630 kVA; 750/800 kVA require design verification and local approval. Ground-mounted, kiosk and indoor configurations: 50–10,000 kVA. Not every configuration has a package price or the same structural design.

Reference: EVN Decision 1299/QD-EVN dated 3 November 2017, Volume 1, sections 3.3–3.4. Check the current requirements of the responsible utility before implementation. Kiosks must meet manufacturer ratings and testing requirements (IEC 62271-202); indoor and ground-mounted arrangements must meet project layout, ventilation, structural and fire-protection requirements. For multiple transformers, specify the quantity and capacity of each unit.
